Unit 5

We started Unit 5 Yesterday with All Quiet on the Western Front, a handy acronym, and a look at WWI propaganda. I've added an updated copy of the Unit 5 outline (in the links to the right on this page) and am copying and pasting an intro from the outline along with the essay questions below...

This unit covers about 30 years.  It begins with “The Great War” that you’ve probably seen coming for a while now.  Not only does it engulf the industrial powers of Europe, but imperialism drags in everyone else as well, forever changing the relationship between the rulers and the ruled. You’ll see the beginnings of major cultural, political, and economic transformations around the world, only to find us right back at war again once the next generation is old enough to fight.

Essay Questions:

1.      Discuss the causes of the first and second world wars, and the effect these wars had on European global dominance.
Discuss the causes and effects of the revolutions and reform movements of the early 20th century. (Fascism vs. communism, the Russian, Chinese, and Mexican revolutions, the New Deal, etc.)
